Summer Fun

After running a bunch of errands one day, we stopped for shaved ice.  It was nice to cool off.

One night we all ended up outside swinging on the swings.  I love how much the kids love the swings!

Camp Cloud Rim - Day 3

Friday morning we got to sleep in a little longer, which was nice.  After breakfast we had kapers (chores) and half of our troop cleaned the shower house while the other half did rock-climbing  Then we switched and the other half cleaned the lodge bathrooms while Bethany's group tried the rock-climbing.  It looked really hard, but several of the girls made it all the way to the top, including Bethany (on her second try).

1st try

She got about half-way up on the 1st try

2nd try

She made it!  There is a hand-print at the top to high-five.

Tacy didn't want to be in the picture

While we waited for the truck to come for us to load our things, there was another downpour, this time with hail.  It was coming down hard!  We were all huddled in the porch by the shower house.

It was a fun camp and I'm glad that I got to go!  It was fun to have a short break from my hum-drum life at home with the kiddos.  But I was glad to get home and take a shower and sleep in my own bed!

Camp Cloud Rim - Day 2

Thursday morning we got up before sunrise (5:00am!) so the girls could be on TV!  Bethany and some other girls headed down to the lodge before I was ready.  When I got there they were doing pottery and getting ready to go on air.  It was a fun, but kind of chaotic morning.

Doing pottery!

While Bethany finished up her pottery, I went and watched them film another troop doing some camp songs.  This was about when the sun started to peek through the clouds.  It was beautiful.  You can't tell, but the mosquitoes at Cloud Rim were intense!  So many mosquitoes!  Especially in the morning, but really all day long.

Bethany finished her bowl, then we went down the the waterfront to watch them do the Polar Plunge segment on TV.  She decided she didn't want to do that on TV, so we just watched.  Even the reporter jumped in!

After the TV crew left, they let any of the girls that wanted to do the Polar Plunge do it at that point.  Bethany was a little nervous, but she did it!

Before taking the plunge!

There she goes!  It looks so cold!

She lost her water shoe :)

After the plunge!

Warming up with hot cocoa and breakfast

These are some of the platform tents our troop stayed in.

Pretty wildflowers

After breakfast, our troop had our turn at the waterfront.  It was still a little chilly, but the girls had fun trying out the kayaks, sailboats, canoes, and swimming.  Bethany really liked the kayak (below):

The little girls loved these little yellow canoes.  They were fun to watch.

Paddle boats

Sailboat

You can't tell, but I am in the yellow life-jacket in the blue/white kayak.  I tried it out with Bethany at the last minute, and it was surprisingly easy to maneuver.  Fun!

After lunch, Bethany's group got to try out the photography.  This little cabin (below) is the dark room.  It is also the oldest structure at Camp Cloud Rim - it used to be the ranger's house for him and his wife and 3 kids.  Tiny!  Of course, these girls have grown up in the digital age and they all thought the dark room was pretty old fashioned, which I guess it is now!

The lodge

We had to climb these stairs way too many times.  They are longer than they appear in this photo.

Lots of squirrels

For dinner Thursday night, we had a cookout scheduled.  It was starting to drizzle, but we started anyway.  After awhile the drizzle turned into a steady downpour.  We tried to tough it out, but the fire wouldn't stay lit.  So we had our dessert in the lodge (cake in an orange).

Finishing our dessert in the lodge fireplace.

It rained pretty much all night that night.  But luckily everyone slept a lot better!  Probably because we had been up so long that day and everyone was exhausted.
