Egg Drop

June 14 - The 5th grade had an egg-drop contest last week.  Bethany and her friend Taylor worked on their project together.  Their egg broke, but they had fun doing it.  Jorgen thought it was fun to go and watch.

Snack shack started right afterwards, so I got a picture, and a giant pixie stick for Jorgen, and a Twix for me :)

More Pictures

One day after the big kids went to school, I decided to take Jorgen and Violet on a walk to a nearby park.  It is not that far, but Jorgen of course complained about how far it was.  We left pretty early in the morning, but it was still pretty hot.  We had fun playing in the sand.  By the time it was time to walk home it was easily 80 degrees.  But we made it home and had popsicles.

Violet likes to "type" on the keyboard.  As long as someone is right there so she doesn't fall off the chair.

She also likes to try on this little pink backpack and walk around with it on.

Anniversary Date

June 1 - after Bethany got home from her Girl Scout thing, and the boys got home from Father and Sons, Dan and I got to go on a date!  We were celebrating our 15th anniversary.  It's hard to believe it has been that long!  We went to dinner at Corbin's in Layton, one of our favorite places to go without kids.  They always have fabulous food.  Then we went to Les Miserables at Pioneer Theatre.  This was my first time seeing the stage production live.  It was amazing!  I have heard the music for years, because my sister had the soundtrack to the Broadway production and would play it all the time.  I've seen several different movie versions, too, and they are all good in their own way.  It has inspired me to read the book again, so I ordered it from Amazon - all 5 inches thick!  I'm pretty sure I read an abridged version in high school, but I am determined to read the unabridged version.  I haven't started yet (still reading other books at the moment).

My dinner was some kind of Japanese garlic steak.  Soooo good!

Dan had steak and salmon

Father and Sons campout

Dan and the boys went to the stake Father and Sons camp out on May 31-June 1.  Bethany had a Girl Scout overnighter the same weekend.  They stayed the night at the Girl Scout office, then went to the Cookie party in SLC the next day, for the girls who sold enough cookies.  She didn't have a camera, so no pictures of that.  So Violet and I had the night to ourselves.  We went to McDonald's for chicken nuggets and a smoothie.  I was trying out my new phone and it's camera.  I put her to bed early, watched a chick flick, and worked on my anniversary gift for Dan, which was a photo book.  I stayed up pretty late trying to get the book done, so I was pretty tired the next day.

Here are some pictures Dan took at the camp out:

Memorial Day

 May 27 (Memorial Day)

We started the day with a trip to the Kaysville Cemetery to put flowers on Grandpa Baker's grave.  It has been 2 years since he passed away.  Time sure flies.

On the way home, we stopped at J&J in Layton and bought things for our garden.  We had been working on prepping the garden area for the past few days, and it was ready to plant.  We planted tomatoes, peppers, squash, pumpkins, peanuts (an experiment to appease Jorgen), carrots, peas, spinach, lettuce, radishes, beans, beets.  Some things are doing pretty well.  Others are struggling with our water restrictions and the heat.  Once again we are late getting things planted, so we'll have to see what we end up with as far as harvest goes.

Mmmm, dirt.

Tastes like chocolate!  (or not)

Dan worked the hardest of all.

May 26

On the last Sunday in May we went up to Brigham City to see Grandma and Grandpa Nay set apart for their mission, and to say goodbye for 18 months.  We will miss them, but we know they will be great missionaries.  They drove themselves to the MTC the next morning.  The kids made some cards for them, and they got to play a little bit.  On the way home, we stopped by the Brigham City cemetery to put some flowers on Great-Grandma Nay's grave.

Fun in the Sun

We were working in the yard on a hot day and got out the pool for the kids to play in.
