First Day of School!

Today was Bethany's first day of 1st grade. She was pretty excited, nervous, scared, etc. etc. But she came home smiling, so that's a good sign. She only knows one kid in her class, so she'll have to make some new friends, but she did see alot of her other friends at recess. She was excited to eat lunch at school, too, and even ate a shrimp sandwich (I doubt she would ever eat that if I fed it to her.)

The summer break was way too short. But, on the bright side, she gets three weeks off in August, so I guess that will be summer break #2. The hardest part of the next 3 weeks will be keeping Andrew occupied. He was whining all day "I want someone to play with me." And it was early-out day today. So, anyone nearby with a preschool age boy that wants a playdate, give me a call!!

Her new teacher is Mrs. Barker. When Bethany came home she said that Mrs. Barker is her 2nd favorite teacher (next to Mrs. Adams). She wore curly hair in honor of Mrs. Adams (her kindergarten teacher). Oh, the devotion of a child!

Over all it was a good day, despite the angry mom in the parking lot incident (okay, I'm the newbie 1st grader mom who doesn't know where to go and I got chewed out by a mom in a bad mood).

Isn't school so much fun!?!

Playing in the Sun

On Saturday, Bethany wanted to have a "last day of vacation" party. So we grilled hot dogs and got out the shark pool. They had a good time and got all worn out, so they slept pretty well. Except, Jorgen is now teething and has a nasty virus on top of that, so he has been a bit of a grump lately.

I love this picture of Jorgen because this is totally an Andrew face. The mischievous eyes and everything. I guess I have twins, only 3 years apart.

Mom went away, and the kids did play

Jorgen is almost crawling! He can get into position, but then he doesn't know what to do and gets frustrated. It won't be long, though.....

So this past week I went with my sister and Jorgen up to Oregon to visit my other sister. She's been having some health problems and we went up to help and just be there and visit. It was a good trip and Jorgen did amazing on the plane. He slept nearly the whole way each time. I was very relieved. I thought he would be screaming the whole way (that was someone else's kid screaming, not mine!) I let Dan keep the digital camera since he was going to take the kids to Thanksgiving Point, so I took up a cheap disposable film camera. So, once I get those pictures developed I'll post some. I have pictures of Crater Lake, plus pictures of Jorgen and Serena (his cousin) playing together. They were really cute together and seemed to get along great. I did find out, though, that I think Jorgen is allergic to dogs. They have a dog, Bingo, and Jorgen was sneezing the whole time. Poor kid. But we still love you, Bingo! I guess we will never have any pets with hair in this house. Dan is allergic to cats.

Dan was in charge of taking the kids to church. He did pretty well - he even curled Bethany's hair and took pictures to prove it! Bethany said she was Belle (from Beauty and the Beast).

The kids had a great time at the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point. Dan took a lot of great pictures, but here are a few samples.

Bethany waiting anxiously.

They ran to give me a hug. It was really cute.

Andrew really missed Jorgen. It only took him a few minutes to get in Jorgen's face and make him cry, though.

Bananas, applesauce, Cheerios......Pickles?!

Yesterday for lunch we went to a new place in Syracuse, Double Scoop Deli. They have Italian sandwiches, gelato, Italian Ice, etc. The food was really good!! Anyone who lives nearby should try it. It's out by the new Syracuse Theaters, west of Wal-mart. Anyway, with the sandwiches they give you a pickle spear. Jorgen grabbed Dan's pickle and started sucking on it and wouldn't let go! I thought he would make a face and spit it out, but he contentedly sucked on that pickle for the entire time we were there. I wish I had brought my camera with me, it was really cute. I never thought an 8 month old baby would like dill pickles!

What strange foods does your baby like?

4th of July

This year for the 4th of July we decided to go back to my hometown of Kaysville for the parade and fireworks. Our city doesn't do anything for the 4th, so we've been city-hopping over the years to various cities, Clearfield, Layton, even Soda Springs one year. So we headed to Kaysville. The weather was perfect - overcast but not raining, which made it not super hot. We left kind of late, so we were afraid we wouldn't get a good spot, but we found a nice shady spot in front of City Hall. Dan took the kids up to the front so they could get candy, and I stayed in the shade with Jorgen. It was a good parade, kind of long, but good. At the end of the parade they do a water parade, where the fire engines come through again and spray down the crowd with water. The kids loved this part. I was far enough back that I didn't get wet, but Bethany and Andrew got soaked. The only bad part of the parade was when Bethany nearly got trampled trying to get a beanie baby that one float was throwing out.

After the parade we walked over to Taco Time for lunch. It was pretty crowded. We ended up sitting outside in the courtyard. It was really windy, and toward the end of our meal, Dan & Jorgen almost got attacked by a flying umbrella. I was in the bathroom and missed the whole thing, but when I came back one of the umbrellas was on the ground and Jorgen's Cheerios were spilled all over the place. At least no one got hurt.

We went home and tried to get Andrew to take a nap but he wouldn't. Jorgen was asleep, so Mom & Dad both took naps while the other kids played computer games. Then we had a barbecue, hamburgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob, and watermelon. Yum!

We left for the fireworks early, around 8:00, hoping Jorgen would fall asleep on the way. He did, but woke up when we got there. So we headed over to the carnival area and the kids got to jump on the big inflatable toys for awhile. They had a blast. Then we headed back to our blanket to wait for the fireworks. We ate snacks and played Uno. The fireworks were really good, they even had music with it. And we weren't smoked out like last year at Clearfield's. All three kids fell asleep on the way home.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! And, Ben, Happy Birthday - you always get a party for your birthday!
