Starbase Graduation

The 6th graders got to participate in Starbase, a science and technology class held at Hill Air Force Base once a week for the last 5 weeks.  Bethany had a lot of fun learning about STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  They did a lot of cool projects and experiments.  Bethany was on the winning team in the Robotics competition.  Last Friday they had a Starbase Graduation.  It was fun to see Bethany excited about Science!

3D and Legos

On Labor Day we stayed home and did some chores, then the kids got to watch a movie on the 3D TV.  Violet likes the 3D glasses - for a few seconds anyway, long enough to get a quick picture.

Jorgen's Kindergarten class has a "class pet" named Olivia.  She goes home with a different student each week.  Then we are supposed to write in a journal what she did with us while she was here.  Jorgen played Legos with Olivia.

Great-Grandpa Nay's chickens

On the way home from the baby blessing in Idaho, we stopped at Dan's Grandpa Nay's house to have root beer floats and see his chickens.  Joe and his girls were there too.  I don't know why, but kids just love chickens.

Meet Maylie

We have a new niece/cousin!  My sister had her baby Maylie in July.  We went up Labor Day weekend to meet her and see her blessed.  She is a cutie!  It seems like just yesterday that Violet was that tiny.  Now she seems big compared to Maylie!

Maylie had some complications with her heart when she was born and had a procedure done.  She has to have the oxygen for a little while.
We made dinner for my sister's family - Grilled Pizza, yum!  The kids ate outside picnic style, then had some fun on the trampoline.  Violet liked the Little Tikes car.

Dan holding Maylie, and Violet - she was skeptical of Maylie.

Such a sweetheart!
I didn't get a picture of Maylie with her family, whoops.  Oh well.  It was fun to see Abby, Logan, Debbie, and Adam too.  :)

Soccer

Last year Andrew took a year off from soccer.  It was nice to not have our Saturdays all booked.  But this year Jorgen decided he wanted to play soccer, and Andrew decided he wanted to give it another try.  So now we are doubly busy on Saturdays.  I didn't get to go to their first games because I was with Bethany camping with the Girl Scouts (see previous post).  So these pictures are from week 2.

Andrew has a really fun and laid back coach.  She is very positive and upbeat.  Andrew seems to be trying more this time around to stay with the ball and help out his team.  He's even kicked the ball a few times.  But he still has his moments of daydreaming.  His team name is the Blazing Cheetos.

The hardest thing with Andrew's soccer is his weekday practices.  They keep changing the day, so it's been a little crazy.  We play AYSO, a rec league that has games on Saturdays, but Andrew's age group has a weekday practice as well.  There is no way we could do a comp team.

What everyone else did:

Are your kids like mine, and can't go even one hour without getting bored and asking to play on your phone?

Jorgen is super lucky because he gets to have his Dad be the coach.  Mostly because they were begging for someone to coach, and Dan agreed.  They have practice and the game all on the same day.  Jorgen's team is the Yellow Scorpions.

They are supposed to be watching Violet, who is asleep in the stroller.  But they are back on Dan's phone again.

Then Violet woke up and took her turn.  I think we'll leave the phones home next time.
