Family Vacation Day 4 - Disneyland!

Tuesday, January 7th - we finally made it to Disneyland!  It was still really crowded!  I guess everyone else thought the same as we did (that the 2nd week of January would be less crowded).  They still had all the Christmas things up, but by Friday when we were back at Disneyland, most of the Christmas things were gone.

Waiting in line for Peter Pan.  Violet did not like this ride.  We discovered that she didn't like any ride that was dark or scary or both.

She did like this ride - Dumbo!

If you look closely you can see Bethany and Andrew.

On the Casey Jr. train.  Violet and Jorgen loved this one.  Andrew and Bethany thought it was boring.

It's a Small World - still Christmas themed with Christmas music

Teacups - everyone likes these!

Violet and her splint

The boys were jealous that they didn't get picked for Jedi training.  I was relieved that they didn't pick one of the two.

The Matterhorn - one of my favorite rides!
Riding the Monorail just for fun.

Autopia

Bethany is in that car in front of us.

Flowers blooming in January - gotta love Southern California!

I took Violet on the Carousel while Dan took the other kids on some of the "dark" rides in Fantasyland, like Pinocchio and Snow White.

We took turns going on Star Tours, and those who were waiting played at the giant water ball.

Remnants of Christmas

Jorgen wanted his picture with this Mickey bench.

Family Vacation Day 3 - Disney California Adventure and a Broken Arm

Monday January 6 - Before we left our room, the kids were horsing around of course.  They were excited to finally be going to play!  While no one saw for sure what happened, Violet got "bounced" off the bed by Jorgen and fell on her arm.  She screamed pretty loud, but calmed down when I held her for awhile.  We thought that she was okay, so we headed out for the long walk across the street.  Our first day was at California Adventure, and our first stop was Toy Story Mania.  Violet rode with me and screamed through the whole thing (probably because she was in pain - keep reading).

The park was VERY crowded!  Way more than we were expecting.  So the lines were kind of long on some of the more popular rides.

Violet was super cuddly and wouldn't let anyone touch her right arm.  You can see her not even using it here.

California Screamer:  In the front row is Jorgen and me.  In the second row is Bethany and Andrew (he is hard to see).  Jorgen was BARELY tall enough, but still wanted to go.  When the ride stopped, he looked simply terrified, and said, "that was so scary!"  It was kind of funny.  Later he acted all brave and said he wasn't scared, but I think this picture proves otherwise :)  When Dan took his turn, Andrew and Bethany went with him, but Jorgen declined.

On the giant Mickey Ferris Wheel

After a few more rides, and a nap, we could tell she was not feeling good.  Every time anyone touched her arm she would scream.   So we found the First Aid station, but they said they couldn't do anything except give us addresses of nearby emergency rooms.  We decided that Dan would take Violet to the ER for an X-ray and I would stay and take the other kids on more rides, so the whole day wasn't shot.

I took the older three kids to Tower of Terror.  This was Andrew's favorite ride 3 years ago, and he was so excited to go again.  Jorgen was trying to be brave and made it clear up until it was time to board the ride.  Then he totally freaked out!  He wouldn't get on!  So I left Bethany and Andrew there to go on the ride by themselves and took Jorgen down to wait for them to get out.  Luckily the guy at the top of the ride let me just leave the 2 older kids there.  I wasn't sure he would let me.  We were able to see them on the TV screens near the exit.

We also went and saw the Aladdin show while Dan and Violet were gone.  It was very well done.

After Aladdin we went over to Bug's Land.  Dan called me at this point to tell me that Violet's arm was indeed broken  - just a small fracture above the elbow - and they were going to put a splint on her arm.  We would have to schedule an appointment back home for a cast.  He sent me some pictures but they are still on his phone, so I'll have to add them later.  He spent a good 2-3 hours at the hospital, most of it just waiting.  He was not impressed with that hospital (Anaheim Regional or something like that).

Bethany was crying about Violet's arm - she felt so bad.

Violet and Dan finally joined us around 5:00pm.  We went on a few more of the Bugs Land rides for Violet, then got incredibly yummy corn dogs for dinner before going over to see World of Color.

She fell asleep in the stroller - you can see her splint here.

Kids were bored waiting for World of Color to start, so they were drawing pictures.
World of Color was pretty awesome.  We were not able to get fast passes (it was too crowded and they ran out), so we didn't have a great spot to watch, but it wasn't terrible.  I only got a few pictures; you really have to see it in person though.

On the way out of the park, we noticed a lot of people sitting on the breezeway between the two parks.  We figured out they were waiting to watch the Disneyland fireworks.  So we sat down and watched too.  They put on a good show.

I thought this slogan was ironic, given the amount of tears we had this day.
