First Day of School

Violet, Bethany, and Andrew

It seems like I just posted the last day of school.  Probably because it was just 3 weeks ago.  Here we are starting another school year.  I feel like summer has just kind of passed me by this year.  It's hard to get out and do much with a nursing baby.  But we have managed to squeeze in a few fun things here and there.
Jorgen's typical mood in the morning - uncooperative

Sweet Violet

Bethany is in 5th grade and has a new teacher, Mrs. Reece.  Actually, she is currently Miss Randall, but is getting married in a few months, so she asked them to call her by her married name to start out.

Andrew is in 3rd grade and has Mrs. Fine.  He was worried because the kids at school think she is mean, but today he told me she is the nicest teacher ever.  And at least 4 girls waved hello to Andrew on his way in.  I am hoping he can make a few new friends this year.

Still grumpy

I love this girl!

Floppy Kids

I took this photo of Andrew for an example of how NOT to sit at the piano.  Legs Indian style, slouching back, elbows on knees, wrists on the fallboard.  Argh!  I might show it to my students.  Or maybe he'll be embarassed?

My kids have a serious case of flopp-itis.  I can't ever seem to keep the couch cushions on the couch.  They are always being pushed off and jumped on.  The other day, I came into the room and they were watching TV and sitting everywhere but the couch.

Look Who's Three Months!

I can't believe it has been three months since Violet joined our family.  She is such a sweetheart and I love her to pieces!  She has been such a good baby!  I didn't know babies could be so easy.  She sleeps well (most of the time) and eats well (most of the time).  She is growing well and smiling like crazy.  And she recently learned how to blow raspberries.  The day she learned that trick she hardly slept at all, she just wanted to blow raspberries.  It was both incredibly cute and frustrating!  We are so glad to have her in our family.

Girl Scout Camp

Dropping Bethany off at Trefoil Ranch

Bethany spent the week of July 16-21 at Girl Scout Camp.  This year she picked the Horse Lover's Camp at Trefoil Ranch, which is located up Provo Canyon.  Monday, I took Bethany (along with Violet) up to camp.  Violet was great on the way there, but cried about half of the way home.  The same week, Andrew had a day camp Science Camp at the Clearfield Aquatics Center.  Dan took him on Monday and I took him the rest of the week. I didn't get pictures of that, but he had fun learning about codes, nature, space, and sports.  It was a fun week for both of them.

Choosing her bed
On Saturday we took the whole family to pick Bethany up after camp was over.  She had a great time learning to ride a horse and making new friends.

Lodge at Trefoil Ranch

On the way down the canyon we stopped at a nice little park so I could feed Violet.  We walked around and explored the stream.

We met up with Bethany's Girl Scout troop at the Gateway in SLC.  The troop was doing a Build-a-Bear party.  The boys were a little (okay, a lot) jealous, so we let them make their own bears before the hoard of girls got started.  Jorgen picked a green camoflauge bear and Andrew picked a monkey.

Bethany's troop spent awhile doing their bears, then was going to ride FrontRunner home.  The rest of us split up - I took Violet to do some back-to-school shopping, and Dan took the boys to the fountains.  They were finishing up when I got back, so I only got a couple pictures.

The girls and I went to a bridal shower for Dan's cousin Emily.  She is super nice and her fiance seems like a good fit.  I didn't get a lot of pictures, but there's a few.

4th of July Fireworks

For the Fireworks we attempted to park near Davis High in Kaysville, but we were running late and there was nowhere to go.  So we went down a side street in search of a parking spot and came across a random church field where a bunch of people were set up to watch the fireworks.  We decided to join them instead of hiking back up the street to the school.  It turned out to be a great spot!  We could see the city fireworks great, plus we could see all kinds of neighborhood fireworks going off in all directions around us.  It was pretty cool.  The only drawback was the sprinklers coming on :) but we managed to not get very wet as we scrambled to another section of the field.

4th of July Parade

Bethany and Andrew waiting for the Clearfield parade

Jorgen was bored waiting!

Violet was sleeping at first.

She woke up and got a change of clothes too.

We debated on doing anything for the 4th of July this year.  I wasn't sure we should take Violet out in the heat and sun, but I also didn't want to be the mean mom who makes her other kids miss everything.  So we decided to go to Clearfield's parade because it was the earliest in the morning, so hopefully the least hot.  They had a pancake breakfast before the parade which I didn't get any pictures of.  It did get pretty warm by the end, but it turned out okay and we had fun.  The only thing Violet really complained about was getting hit in the stomach by a flying tootsie roll.  She screamed pretty hard after that.  Otherwise it was a success!

Last Day of School!

Before school on the last day!

Our last day of school for Andrew and Bethany was July 3rd.  We have all been counting down to our short 21 days of "summer" break.  We go back to new grades and new teachers on July 25th.  I think they both had a great year and I really liked their teachers this year.

Andrew and Mrs. Fitzgerald, or "Mrs. Fitz"

Bethany and Mrs. Malan

This is the 1st day of school last August - they really both have grown a lot!  Bethany went through 3 pants sizes in one school year this past year, so I know she has had a growth spurt.
