Rocket Launch

Awhile back we bought some rocket kits for each kid to build. We finally had a day that worked to launch the rockets. We headed over to the fields at our elementary school and had a blast (literally!)

The kids with their rockets before liftoff. The goggles were their idea (they had them from a previous activity with grandma.)

Dan had just as much fun, if not more, than the kids.

We even attracted a few neighbor kids. One of them was in Andrew's class last year.

Running to catch the rocket:

My kids are never the aggressive ones.

Jorgen's turn:

The sunset was gorgeous. It got even better than this, but this is the only pic I got.

They even had fun when the sprinklers came on:

Jorgen Starts Preschool

One of my friends in the ward asked if I wanted to join her in a neighborhood preschool. It sounded like fun and it worked out with our schedule, so I though why not? Jorgen gets soooo bored at home with his older siblings at school and just mom here to entertain him. I figured more preschool was better than more TV :) In two weeks he starts Montessori preschool in the afternoons. He'll be a busy little 3-year-old.

He was so pumped to have a brand new backpack, new clothes and shoes, and a new pencil box filled with fun things.

When I picked him up, I asked him what they did. He said he learned the "School Bus Song" (Wheels on the Bus). Then we had to sing it over and over for the rest of the day :)

Now if only I could get him all the way potty trained......(he is SO close, but very stubborn!)

Bear Lake

We took a very quick overnight trip to Bear Lake. We were kind of worried because the forecast said thunderstorms. But Dan had signed up to do Bike the Bear again, so we went. We drove up Friday afternoon and stopped at the lookout spot in Logan Canyon.

Then we drove to the camp for Dan to register, then drove to our own campsite. We decided to camp at Rendezvous Beach. Good thing we reserved a spot because it was full. The kids were excited to roast hot dogs on the fire.

Cherry face :)

The night was actually quite cold, especially since I ended up sharing a twin size mattress with Jorgen, who hogged the bed. I didn't sleep much. But we did decide to get a nice, bigger tent that will fit our whole family. It was nice to not have 2 tents. When Dan got up super early to get to his race, it was pouring rain and there was really LOUD thunder and lots of lightning. The kids all woke up around 6:00 am (way too early!) and we all got so see the cool sunrise with the storm.

After Dan left it started raining again, so I convinced the kids to get back in the tent and try to sleep some more. I may have dozed off for a few minutes, but they sure didn't. I had to break up several pillow fights that got out of hand.

Once the sun came out it turned out to be a really nice day. One big plus to camping at Rendezvous Beach is that you get to use the campers-only beach. It was not crowded at all, even with the campsites being all full. But the day-use area was sooooo crowded! So glad we weren't there. With the lake so high this year, there are not many beaches left.

Empty beach!

Dan joined us on the beach after his ride was done. I had to stop taking pictures because my camera battery was dying. We had a great time and it was fun to get away for probably our last time of the summer!

County Fair

Best day to go to the fair - Wednesday! No crowds, no lines, much less stress! It was a fun evening.

A year ago Jorgen was afraid of the climbing inflatable toys. Not this year - he loved them!

First Day of School

Can you believe it, school has started already! This year I have a fourth-grader, a second-grader and a preschooler. They were sure excited. Bethany had her outfit all coordinated even down to her fingernail polish. When did she have to go and look so grown-up?

For some reason, I don't like the skull attire. But Andrew likes it, so I gave in and he loves this shirt. He looks pretty handsome. He insisted that he wasn't really a 2nd grader until the bell rang.

Jorgen starts his morning preschool next week and his afternoon preschool in September. I am being crazy and trying 2 preschools this year. One of them is free (neighborhood preschool). He was cold this morning and didn't want his picture taken.

Andrew has Mrs. Fitzgerald who goes by Mrs. Fitz. She seems really cool so far. She even called me last week just to introduce herself and ask if I had any questions. I've never had a teacher do that before. I was worried that he didn't have a lot of friends in his class, but when he walked in several kids said hi to him that know him. Hopefully they will be nice to him.

Bethany has Mrs. Malan and gets a computer at her desk! How cool is that? Again, I didn't think she knew very many in her class, but as she walked in just about everyone said "Hi Bethany!" like they are old friends.

Jorgen played on the Kindergarten playground for a few minutes before we went home. He has 2 full years of preschool before he starts Kindergarten. He will be my lunch bud for awhile longer!

Josh Groban Concert

Saturday Dan and I got a babysitter and went to Salt Lake for the Josh Groban concert. It was amazing as usual! I think this is our 3rd time going to his concerts. We had front row tickets! (of the nose bleed section, had you going there didn't I?). He had a small stage area in the middle of the floor seats where he did some of his songs. Man, the people with floor seats were sure lucky! Dan was "lucky" enough to have a wild, crazy, and obese woman next to him the whole time. On my side was an older lady who didn't make one peep the whole time. I think it's funny when women old enough to be his GRANDMA hoop and holler at him like they want some action. It cracks me up every time!
