School Lunch

Before we know it, Kindergarten will be over and 1st grade will be starting. In just 7 weeks, in fact, with our super-short summer break. So I thought it might be a good idea to take Andrew to lunch to try it out. We went and ate with Bethany. Andrew liked the chicken patty and the sherbert cup. The lunch ladies make the kids take buns with the chicken patty, but Andrew never eats buns, ever. So, lunch ladies, there will be a plethora of perfectly fine buns thrown in the trash next year, courtesy of Andrew. He likes bread, but not buns. He is definitly a picky eater, and I'm guessing he will probably take a home lunch most days, but it was worth trying anyway. I can't believe he is going to be in 1st grade. I'm hoping for a growth spurt here in the next month. (So people will stop asking me if I'm sure he's old enough for 1st grade)

Softball

Bethany is on a machine pitch softball team this spring. She is on the Giants team. This is her first try at softball. She says she loves it, for now (we'll see). Her team is comprised of 1st and 2nd graders (mostly 1st) and mostly boys (only 2 girls). But she is having fun and learning the game.

"Babby"

I watched my niece Abby at the temple while her parents went in for a wedding. Jorgen calls her "Babby," thus the title of my post. I'm putting all of these pictures on mostly for Debbie, so I don't have to e-mail all of them to you. This is much easier. It was a fun and beautiful morning.

Just playing with my camera settings.

No Bears

I am slow getting pictures up on my blog. These are from 2 weeks ago. For FHE one night we played "No Bears Are Out Tonight," a game that Dan played with his Grandpa years ago. They loved it. I was the photographer. In this first picture Jorgen is the bear. After a few minutes of hiding, he is supposed to jump up and grab someone, then they get to be the bear. It was a lot of fun! I got a good video of it, but I can't get it to post.

After getting all worn out, we had ice cream cones for the treat. It was a perfect day for eating on the deck, even for the mosquitos!

5K and Carnival

My kids talked me into signing up for the 5K at their school. I am not a runner, I have never really liked running and I'm not good at it. Walking is okay. I figured I could handle a 5K. I signed up the whole family, thinking it was on Saturday, but later realized it was on Friday, so Dan couldn't come since he was going to the Jamborall with the Scouts. So I took all 3 kids by myself. My goal was to not finish last, and I am happy to say I met my goal. We ran some of it, and walked most of it, and finished in about 45 minutes. I had both boys in the jogging stroller and they were really good the whole way. Jorgen didn't hit Andrew even once! Amazing!

I didn't get any pictures before or during, but afterwards we had the BBQ dinner at the school and played at the carnival. We lost Andrew once, and Jorgen had multiple meltdowns anytime he had to wait in line for something (which was for everything). Other than that we had a good time and maybe we'll do it again next year, who knows!

We had a rainstorm during the carnival and this beautiful rainbow.

Bethany's painted face, just before I washed it off at home.

T-ball

Andrew is now a 2-sport kid, for a couple of weeks anyway, until soccer is over. He just started T-ball last week and so far he likes it. He is on the Texas Rangers team. It has been very cold for his first 2 practices, we are hoping it warms up soon!

In the outfield

I love this picture because Andrew isn't the shortest kids on his team!

Up to bat

T-ball is hilarious to watch. I love that the kids are just there to have fun and don't worry about the competition. I never thought we would have kids in sports, but they enjoy it and make new friends. They might not ever be great an any of them but that's okay! Bethany is doing softball too, so I'll post some pictures of her soon.

Italian Food and French Music

For a Mother's Day date Dan was able to get tickets to the Symphony for only $20 total. I was happy he didn't make me go see Iron Man 2 that weekend :) I'm sure he has it on pre-order for the Blu-ray, though.

We stared with dinner at Olive-Garden - yum!! We ate in Layton because we thought Salt Lake would be too crowded with the Jazz game. Good move - they let us sit in the bar area and we didn't even have to wait for a table.

Trying to take our own picture

Strangely beautiful glass sculpture in the lobby

Before the concert

Every time I go I am amazed at how beautiful this venue is.

It was an all French program: Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No.2 , and a Franck Symphony. It was great! It was nice to have a break from the kids and go on a much needed date.

Girl Scouts Awards Night

Bethany had her Girl Scouts Awards Night last week. She has really enjoyed Girl Scouts this year. They have learned a lot and she has made some new friends. It's a great program and I wish more girls would do it!

They decorated bags to hold their badges. The boys decorated their own bags too.
.
After a yummy dinner, they sang the Brownie Song, very cute!

Bethany getting her badges. A little blurry, sorry.
