Jorgen liked to scoop out the pulp.
Andrew did amazingly well with the little carving saw.
Dan was carving with his pocket knife.
So we were almost done with the pumpkins and I guess Jorgen really was done, because he pushed his chair back from the table a little too hard and it tipped over backwards - and he landed hard on the tile floor. He was screaming so loud! He had a huge gash in the back of his head and it was bleeding quite heavily - one look and we could tell he was going to need a doctor. It was one of those stomach turning wounds. It was quite chaotic with Dan trying to stop the bleeding, and me rounding up shoes and jackets and rushing everyone to the car with pumpkin guts still on our hands. Amazingly, Jorgen stopped crying in the car on the way, probably because Dan was holding him on his lap in the front where he NEVER is allowed to sit (he had to hold a rag to his head). The bleeding also stopped which we thought was amazing.
We went to Wee Care After-Hours hoping they would let him in (a copay there is much cheaper than an ER visit). They were nice enough to let him in right away and we didn't even have to wait in the waiting room with all the flu patients (thank goodness!)
The nurse washed out the wound (which started the tears up again) and the doctor came in and gave him 4 staples in the back of his head. They decided the shot to numb it would have hurt just as much as the staples, so no shot. Dan had to hold him down to the table while they did this, and he was screaming pretty bad. Bethany was trembling she was so scared, and Andrew, the little booger, was giggling (he's five, what can I say). Maybe I shouldn't have had the whole family in there, but I didn't want to sit out in the waiting room and catch the flu. Once it was all over Jorgen got 4 suckers, one for each staple. He stopped crying and was actually quite cheerful the rest of the night.
Jorgen with his suckers once we got home.
OUCH!!!
In case you were wondering, here are the pumpkins all finished.
Jorgen would not go to bed at first and would not let us lay him down for diaper changes or to go to bed. He eventually did go to bed around 11pm and let me lay him down on his stomach. I have put him down on his back for so long that he was pretty confused on his tummy, but he was so tired he fell alseep pretty quick (plus he had a dose of ibuprofen to help). And I have become a pro at standing diaper changes. Maybe I will get sick of it and start potty training him? We are glad he is okay and on the mend. He will have the staples in for one week, then we get to go back and have them removed. And the kid will not slow down. I am worried he will bang his head again and re-open the wound, but he is just non-stop energy! Good thing he is so cute and lovable!
