A bit extreme

I read this article in the paper this morning. I thought it was a joke at first. I can't imagine nursing mothers lining up to be milked, can you? Although Jorgen might like it, I don't think I would eat it.

"WATERBURY, Vt. — Mooove over, Holsteins. PETA wants world-famous Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream to tap nursing moms, rather than cows, for the milk used in its ice cream.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking the ice cream maker to begin using breast milk in its products instead of cow’s milk, saying it would reduce the suffering of cows and give ice cream lovers a healthier product.
The idea got a cool reception Thursday from Ben & Jerry’s officials, the company’s customers and even La Leche League International, the world’s oldest breast-feeding support organization, which promotes the practice — for babies, anyway.
PETA wrote a letter to Ben & Jerry’s founders on Tuesday, telling them cow’s milk is hazardous, that milking cows is cruel.
“If Ben and Jerry’s replaced the cow’s milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers — and cows — would reap the benefits,” wrote Tracy Reiman, executive vice president of the animal rights advocacy group. She said dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies and obesity.

What a sweetheart!

There was a DI Drive today, so I was going through my cupboards looking for things to donate. I found 20 flower vases. That's right, TWENTY! Dan is such a sweetheart. He always buys me flowers for special occaisions, and once in awhile for no occaision at all. There have been a few "I'm sorry" bouquets, too. And these vases don't show all of the flowers bought without a vase. I believe I still have the very first vase he ever gave me, way back before we were even really dating much. I didn't give that one away, but I gave away most of these. I just need the room in my cupboards. Anyway, I thought it was sweet to see how many I had. Thanks, Dan - you know the way to my heart!

Peach Days Parade

We went to the Peach Days Parade with Dan's family today. Before the parade is a 10K race.
Grandpa Nay ran and won 2nd place in his division. We even made a sign to cheer him on. Bethany got to hold it. She thought is was pretty cool to see Grandpa run.

Jorgen just chillin' in the stroller.

Andrew waiting for the parade to start.

Standing for the flag: Andrew, Bethany, Sammy, Maria
John, Maria, Sammy, Bethany enjoying the floats

I loved this face on Dominic

The Malt-O-Meal float was tossing out cereal. Jorgen liked the Marshmallow Mateys!
He liked the football too.

Andrew was crying about not getting enough candy, until he realized he could eat it. Then he cheered up!
Grandpa Nay, Grandma Nay, and Dominic
Sammy, Bethany, Andrew

Damon and Paula

After the parade we went to G&G Nay's for a picnic lunch. The kids made paper kites and had fun running around with them, even though it really wasn't very windy.

Jorgen loves books, too, just like his big sister and brotherCheck out that baby belly! I think he needs a bigger shirt.
Bethany loves books!

We all had a good time. We haven't been to Peach Days since before Dan and I were married. We went the first summer we met on a date. Dan is from Brigham, so maybe we should have gone before now. It was fun to see Grandpa in the race and see our cousins. The weather was beautiful - just perfect for a parade.

Quote of the Day

We went to my parents for dinner tonight and had some of my mom's home-grown grapes. Bethany said, "These grapes are great, they have that Grandma taste to them."

She also said, "this is the best meal I've ever had in my whole life!" We had potato bar. I wish she'd say that when I cook. Oh well, I'm glad she likes Grandma's cooking!

First Day of Preschool

Tuesday was Andrew's first day of preschool. He was excited to see his teachers and friends from last year, and meet new friends. He liked wearing his new clothes, too, even though they are drowning him. I'm hoping he'll have a growth spurt here soon, so he isn't the shortest kid in his class anymore. Now I have a couple hours to myself every morning (four days a week!), depending on how long Jorgen's morning nap lasts. The hard part is deciding what to do. There are a million things I could or should be doing. I'm planning on using some of that time to exercise, so I can get rid of my baby belly. What do you do when you have time to yourself?
